Maria has been a KPFA listener as long as she can remember growing up in diverse and cultural San Francisco of the 80s, and 90s. She founded Indigo Impact in 2017, a collective of filmmakers, artists, and social action groups focusing on bringing diverse communities to left-of-center media, art, and social action organizations. Indigo Impact leads a meditative practice of autonomy first while connecting community, space, and place. She received her M.F.A. from CalArts in Film/Video. WIRED magazine called her a “filmmaker provocateur” bridging technology thinking with art making. PALM TREES won the Adrienne Shelly Award for excellence in directing and aired on BET’s “Lens on Talent”. Her films have screened around the world. She will bring to the Local Station Board a strong background in digital strategies, design community engagement, fundraising, and outreach strategies. Maria believes in the power of media especially storytelling in radio to inform, activate and contextualize the movement of the people.
